Police are hunting Abreham Woldegiworgis, 35, an Ethiopian national, after Erdem Mustafa, 35, was shot dead outside a pub in Enfield at around 9.30pm on 19 October. Ashlea Simon, a far-right influencer and former co-leader of Britain First, was arrested at Manchester Airport on 25 October after returning from a family holiday. Greater Manchester Police said a 37-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause criminal damage in connection with a spate of vandalism attacks on HMOs across the Greater Manchester region. Simon claims the arrest relates to social media videos she has posted since July in which she identifies HMOs in Salford. She says she has committed no crime. The investigation covers about 50 incidents of vandalism and criminal damage across Salford, Tameside and Stockport, and five men and a 13-year-old boy have also been arrested in connection with it.

A South Dakota legislative task force has unanimously advanced two proposals to address the state's struggling emergency medical services system. A man in his 80s died after being struck by an orange van in a Sainsbury's car park on East Prescot Road, Knotty Ash, at about 3.40pm on Saturday, 10 October. A woman infected with Ebola and her Swiss diplomat spouse have been admitted to hospitals in Switzerland after arriving from Nigeria. The woman, Ugandan-born and based in Abuja, is being treated for the Bundibugyo strain at Geneva University Hospital, while her husband is isolated at University Hospital Zurich. Swiss authorities say the situation poses no risk to public health. Nigerian Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said the woman's condition had improved and she was 'stable, conscious, communicating'. Robert John Crawford, a former RAAF pilot, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife Frances Elizabeth Crawford. Prosecutors allege he strangled her and staged her death to look accidental, positioning her body beside a ride-on lawnmower that had been toppled from a retaining wall near their Toowoomba property in the early hours of 30 July 2024. Four men are on trial at Winchester Crown Court accused of sexually assaulting Joanne Young between 2016 and 2023. Her former husband, Philip Young, 50, a former Conservative councillor for Swindon, has pleaded guilty to 56 sex offences against her over 13 years, including drugging and raping her. A Swiss woman infected with Ebola and her husband have been medically evacuated from Nigeria to Switzerland. Elizabeth Carter, the mother of William Micah Carter, met with Rajinder Kumar, the truck driver charged with killing her son and his wife in an Oregon highway collision. Richmond Swimming Pool in North Yorkshire will reopen before the end of the year after closing in April last year following a partial ceiling collapse. Andy Felix, 25, was arrested on Friday on one count of reckless manslaughter in connection with a July 17 crash in Gilbert, Arizona that killed Pauline Gray, 59. Police say Felix ran a red light while driving a pickup truck hauling a trailer, hitting Gray's SUV as she prepared to turn left onto Cooper Road. Investigators believe Felix was speeding between 59 and 65 mph at the time of the 10 a.m. crash. A study by puzzle platform Unscrambler analysed Google Trends pronunciation searches from January to October 2026 to identify the words Americans most often mispronounce. A United Nations commission has concluded that Russia committed war crimes and crimes against humanity by systematically attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure since autumn 2022. The attacks have left millions without electricity, heating, water and gas, particularly during the severe winter of 2025–2026 when temperatures dropped to minus 21 degrees Celsius. The commission found that Russian commanders knew the targeted heating facilities were essential to civilians and intentionally directed attacks against these civilian objects.

Simon Richardson, 35, of Sale, is charged with murder, manslaughter and dangerous driving following the death of Michael Mullins, a 56-year-old head teacher from Weaverham. Prosecutor Phil Barnes told the jury that Richardson drove away from the scene after hitting Mullins on Paddock Lane on 20 April, when Mullins was cycling home from work. Richard Baines, the 60-year-old curator of Logan Botanic Garden near Stranraer, died on Sunday, October 25 when he was hit by a falling tree while walking near his home in Dumfries and Galloway during Storm Boelo. The Southern Health Trust is proceeding with plans to temporarily move inpatient maternity services from Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry to Craigavon Area Hospital, despite public protest. The trust says it cannot safely staff both hospitals and has five vacant obstetrician posts. Women in the Newry area say the 40-mile journey poses risks during premature labour or other emergencies. Erica Lynn Sayre, 45, and her husband, Clifford Gale Sayre, 46, of Evans, West Virginia, have been charged with child abuse and neglect following an investigation into years of alleged abuse of three orphaned children in their home. Erica Sayre faces three counts of child abuse resulting in bodily injury and three counts of child neglect creating risk of injury; Clifford Sayre faces six counts of child neglect. The children told investigators they were repeatedly struck, strangled, deprived of food and water, and subjected to various forms of degradation including having soiled cat litter placed in their beds and dog faeces on their belongings. The children have been removed from the home.

A man in his 40s died after falling from a height on Herbert Road in Plumstead on 26 October. Emergency services were called at 1.53pm and dispatched ambulance crews, paramedics, a Hazardous Area Response Team and London's Air Ambulance. Despite emergency first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Metropolitan Police said the death is not believed to be suspicious and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

Durham Police have issued a warning after a large group of youths climbed onto rooftops in Darlington town centre and threw stones and other objects at passers-by on High Row, the first day of the school half-term holidays. Walter Koenig, the actor best known for playing Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, has died aged 90. He died of old age at his home in North Hollywood on Sunday, surrounded by his daughter and niece. Koenig joined the science-fiction show in 1967 and appeared in six original cast films. His Star Trek co-stars have paid tribute: George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu, said Koenig was 'a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend', noting they met on the bridge of the Enterprise nearly 60 years ago and Koenig served as best man at Takei's wedding in 2008. Mark Carpenter, 57, is on trial at Plymouth Crown Court accused of murdering Harry Jackson, 28, at a house on Embankment Road, Plymouth on 28 May. Carpenter denies murder but accepts he inflicted the fatal stab wounds. He claims he was acting in self-defence after Jackson assaulted him twice that afternoon. The court heard Jackson was found dead at the bottom of the stairs about five hours after the incident, with four horizontal stab wounds to his back in a straight line and a slash wound to his wrist that severed a major artery.

A motorcyclist in his early 60s has died following a collision with a red Audi saloon car on the A63 Selby Bypass near Barlby. The crash occurred around 7am on Monday, 26 October. A 31-year-old man from York, the Audi driver, has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in police custody.

Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, launched on Friday to large crowds but some early buyers have reported their inner screens cracking within hours or days of ownership. Scowcroft was arrested after police found a receipt at his home placing him at the store. He initially denied the offences but later changed his plea to guilty.
